The Moscow Region Speed Skating Center «Kolomna» is getting ready for the First Russian Winter Universiade, which will take place from 17 to 19 February 2010. More than 100 sportsmen from 24 universities of Russia will come to Kolomna to fight for the victory.

Sports school «Comet»

Actually the Moscow Region Speed Skating Center «Kolomna» is the main training base for the young sportsmen from the Kolomna Youth Olympic Reserve School of speed skating «Comet». The training processes of nearly 1200 kids and youths go on for seven hours six days of the week on the ice, in the gym and on the indoor playground. «Comet» has just opened the departments of short-track (130 pupils) and figure skating (240). Last season the young sportsmen from the school set 19 records of the Moscow Region and Kolomna, and one Russian Record.

While being based in the Moscow Region speed Skating Center «Kolomna» the school «Comet» prepared one World-class master of sports – Alexei Yesin and three masters of sports – Andrei Troukhin, Mikhail Titov and Yaroslav Vikoulin.

The Kolomna Youth Olympic Reserve School of speed skating «Comet» was founded in 1961. From 1969 the school coaches trained their pupils on the Central Speed Skating Base, on the site where now the Speed Skating Center «Kolomna» is situated. Later the school was announced to prepare professional speed skaters to take part in Olympic Games. Therefore in the course of its long history «Comet» brought up a lot of famous world champions and prizewinners.
